Conceived as a source of inspiration and a means of escape from the stress and tensions of contemporary living, Sri Lanka Villa 9604 lulls you into a sense of oneness with itself as you walk barefooted on its cool cement floors, soak up the atmosphere of its exotic garden, and lose yourself in the play of light and shadows on the surface of its turquoise pool.Offering nine individually designed, supremely comfortable rooms; a beautiful, uncrowded beach; discreet service and exquisite fusion cuisine.
A perfect mix of elegant good taste and friendly warmth to enchant you, as you relish the true luxuries of life….time, tranquility, and well being….
Far removed from the tedium of large resort hotels and package tourism, this intimate, 9 room beachside villa can be found tucked down a by-lane of Bentota, 65km away from the Sri Lankan capital Colombo, on the beautiful South Western Coast.
Its location on a superb stretch of golden beach is one of the villa’s great assets, as is its Mediterranean-inspired pool and Pavilion. Equally the owner, one of Sri Lanka’s foremost fashion designers, takes great pride & pleasure in the delicious fusion cuisine on offer, from the tropical fruit-based desserts, homemade pastas and breads, to the “Tamarind Seafood Platter”
Each of the villa’s individually designed rooms and public areas are furnished with carefully selected pieces of object d’art and antiques from Sri Lanka’s rich European colonial heritage. All the rooms have en suite bathrooms with hot water showers and balconies or terraces that look out to lily ponds and frangipani trees in the garden or across towering coconut palms towards the ocean.
Amenities such as telephones in the rooms and a room service menu are provided for those who wish to luxuriate undisturbed in their beds and while overhead fans and fresh ocean breezes cool all nine rooms, most offer the option of air-conditioning too. Laundry service is an added bonus for guests, as is the airport transfer service that can be arranged for you.
However it is in the attention to the “little luxuries” that this villa distinguishes itself; the piles of fluffy white towels in the bathrooms; the interest taken in special individual dietary requirements; the complementary afternoon tea service; the funky brass “mood” lamps or scented candles to welcome you to bed as you slip in between crisp, clean cotton sheets…
At this far escape one can: Frolic on the endless beach, meditate, jog, “boogie board”, watch the fishermen bring in their nets, catch a rare early-morning sighting of dolphins, bask in the moonlight or soak up the sun’s afternoon rays with an ice-cold beer at hand. Read a favorite book by the poolside, or sip a “sundowner” in the “Pavilion”. Visit a nearby turtle hatchery and delight in releasing newly-hatched baby turtles into the ocean. Cruise down the backwaters of Balapitiya river, through mangrove tunnels and around tiny islands housing temples.
Enjoy the facilities of professional water sports centers, a five-minute “tuk-tuk” ride away, offering everything for the water skiing/ jet sking/ diving/ banana-boat enthusiast.
Be inspired by your surroundings and daydream. Play cards, chess, backgammon. Explore ancient Buddhist temples or the culturally rich Heritage Site of the Galle Fort, or the exotic Brief gardens of Bevis Bawa.
Discover the bustling market and shops of the nearest town (Aluthgama – just two kilometers away) and pick up some souvenirs of Sri Lanka, such as a traditional carved “devil-dancer” mask.
Unwind with a massage by a local ayurvedic masseur. Watch the trains that rumble occasionally past the bottom of the garden. Listen to birdsong at dawn, frog chorus at dusk. Or just do nothing….. (highly recommended!)
