This beautiful castle is part of the Carnegie Club, which is a private residential and sporting club, situated near Dornoch in Sutherland.
The club allows non-members the opportunity to stay at Skibo Castle, just the once, before membership has to be taken. This gives everyone the opportunity to view this most outstanding castle. "Heaven on earth" was how Andrew Carnegie described Skibo - his glorious Highland Castle, and there will be very few people who would argue against this. He acquired Skibo in 1898 and spent a fortune re-building the castle to create one of the world's great residences. The castle itself is in the grand Baronial style with 21 bedrooms and a further 25 bedrooms situated within private lodges on the estate. The lodges are also original, having been fully restored in a Victorian style. The castle has original furniture and Carnegie memorabilia which provides an authentic historical and nostalgic atmosphere of this grand Edwardian era. The estate consists of 7,500 acres and has a range of recreational activities to offer all guests. There is, amongst others, the championship 18 hole golf course, fishing, horse riding, falconry, swimming, gymnasium, steam room, clay pigeon shooting, tennis, badminton, rowing, canoeing, bird watching, snooker, archery, croquet, mountain biking or just walking in the grounds. The experience of a 24 hour stay at Skibo Castle - would include - arrival midday to be shown your room with an explanation of how Skibo operates, lunch at the clubhouse, unlimited use of the recreational facilities including the 18 hole golf course or choosing one of the planned activities of the afternoon, afternoon tea at the castle, cocktails at 19.30 hours, with dinner at 20.00 hours, followed by after dinner drinks. The following morning includes breakfast, possibly going on the falconry walk or choosing another scheduled activity, and then departure. Restrictions - no smoking in the dining room, there are two rooms which are for members only, children under 16 are accommodated in the Lodges only (families are welcome), mobile phones to be switched off on arrival, photographing other guests can only be by permission only, and no driving around the estate in private vehicles is permitted (chauffeur driven vehicles/golf buggy's are provided).
